Divorce Stories
![]()
Susan was devastated when she discovered her husband wanted a divorce. The fact that he was involved with another woman did not help matters. They had three well-adjusted children who were about to have their family torn apart. She made a conscious decision to do whatever was necessary to help her children cope with this traumatic event.
The family went to counseling sessions. Susan worked through her anger and was then able to help her children work through theirs. Delinda was a gifted adolescent when the family split. She managed to maintain her creativity, sense of humor and a 3.8 GPA throughout high school. Both parents attended basketball games, parent/teacher conferences, and graduatin ceremonies while maintaining a friendly demeanor with each other.
When the youngest child asked to live with his father during the middle school years, Susan agreed. Her priority was always to do what was best for the children. And she did. When her ex-husband's second child (with his new wife) was born she even babysat for them while the delivery was taking place.
Divorce does not have to destroy a family. It can be restructured into a new, but different entity. The children do not have to be destroyed. It is a conscious choice, not always easy, but certainly worthwhile.
