Teaching With Wisdom

Teaching is a spiritual journey. When this principle is not understood, teaching becomes a very stressful and frustrating profession. Teachers are gifted with compassion, a need to help others, and a love for children. These same gifts can lead to burnout when we don't know how to nuture them. Let's face it. Children push our buttons! But if we didn't have these buttons, they couldn't be pushed. So our job becomes finding the root of the buttons and then digging them up. So in many ways, children become our teachers. When you find yourself getting angry or frustrated with a student (and who doesn't?), the student has just pointed out a part of you that needs healing. So instead of becoming angry with the student, learn how to heal yourself. Then each incident becomes a win-win situation. As you began to heal your wounds (buttons) you are freer to help each student heal and grow. With each emotional issue (button) you heal, there are fewer for the students to push! And amazingly they are no longer drawn to act out in those ways. It's almost as if some invisible intelligence is communicating with them.
